Moon, the youngest and least powerful of Sun’s children, heard their prayers and came to earth to see the people who cried with such need. She walked among them in secret for 28 days and nights. She saw war, violence, cruelty and destruction and many times she nearly turned her back on them as her father had. Yet she also saw good, kindness, love, strength used to protect rather than destroy, and beauty created and nourished. While she could easily condemn the bad she could not stand to see the good wiped out with it. So on the 29th day, she showed herself to them. “I have not my father’s brightness, I am but a pale reflection of the Sun’s glory. However what light I do have I offer to you. I will light your night sky for each of the 28 nights I have spent among you and keep the evil in the darkness at bay. On this 29th night I will need to rest and remember the good for which I shine.”
And so the Moon lights our sky each time the Sun leaves and gives is 28 nights of peace. Yet legend says on the 29th night Moon spends her time of rest walking secretly among us as she once did. Taking in the beauty of our world and reminding herself of all the good we are capable of so that on the morrow her light might grow again to keep the darkness at bay so that good may grow.

Oftentimes people ask me what my paintings mean, but the painting itself is my expression. I would love to hear what they mean to YOU! When you share words that convey your experience of a painting in that moment, we’re telling a story together. Each of us see something different and all of those layers of experience create something beyond what exists on the canvas. I encourage you to message me or comment and share the thoughts and feelings that your favorite painting conveys.
