They waited. They waited for the day that the sphere in the sky would come back around, and bring the light that they’d wished for.
Ever since that time — the impact — this world they’d been on stopped…spinning. They became eternally locked opposite their sun, constantly cast in darkness. Their plants died. Their waters froze. And they — these people — were forced inside, to grow with the light they created, and heat with the elements beneath the earth.
But once every five years, their slow orbiting moon would return, and with it, bring the reflecting light of their star and a small reminder of something they took for granted for so long.
There will be festivals for the remainder of this month — feasts, and dancing, and celebration as they enjoy the returning light. But then, just as it came… it will orbit away on its lengthy ellipse…gone, for another five years.
But for now…they will celebrate, “The Return.”

Oftentimes people ask me what my paintings mean, but the painting itself is my expression. I would love to hear what they mean to YOU! When you share words that convey your experience of a painting in that moment, we’re telling a story together. Each of us see something different and all of those layers of experience create something beyond what exists on the canvas. I encourage you to message me or comment and share the thoughts and feelings that your favorite painting conveys.
